JKriv’s 8 Delicious Favorite Recordings
Razor-N-Tape’s JKriv has just released a brand new 7″ on his side label Leisure Group Recordings and Kings of High Speed’s ‘False Start Dub’ has been something of a labour of love.
As JKriv has told us it’s “Dedicated to the memory of Ethan White, one of the grooviest humans to ever walk the earth…”. Jkriv and the late Ethan White were band mates together in https://www.facebook.com/torturedsoul and the tracks from the 12″ were made a decade ago by them and sat unfinished on an old drive for many years. Recently unearthed by JKriv he set to work on giving them a well deserved release.

Two tracks already heavy on the dub JKriv added “a healthy dose of dub via his hardware Space Echo, Eventide and Moog delay units.” The result is two classic dub reggae tracks and a fitting memorial for Ethan.
The 7″ has already been selling like hot cakes, you can grab one of the final copies HERE
To celebrate the release of ‘False Start Dub’ we asked JKriv to take us off on a journey of one of his favourite labels and he landed on the aptly named Favorite Recordings, a brilliant label out of France.
“Truly a favorite of mine, this label turns out consistent quality across a spectrum of Franco-Caribbean vibes, tasteful disco reissues, and organic dub sounds….” JKriv
JKriv’s 8 Delicious Favorite Recordings
The Dynamics – Music (The Dynamics Disco Version)
I’m pretty sure this is my first Favorite record, which I picked up at the old Turntablelab in NYC (RIP). I’ve got a soft spot for reggae covers and this seminal collection of modern-retro takes is an absolute classic.
Spies Are Watching Me (Feat. Sir Jean)
This was my introduction to Voilaaa and work of Bruno Hovart aka Patchworks. I actually played the B-side for years until I finally flipped the record over and realized how fresh this tune is!
Becky Bell – Music Madness (Tom Noble Remix)
Favorite unearthed a gem with this one, and our boy Tom Noble put his foot in the remix!
Esnard Boisdur – Mizik Bel (Africaine 808 Remix)
This is such an interesting tune something about the combination of organic north-African elements, housey rhythms and euphoric vocals just hits. This one didn’t leave my bag for years.
Cotonete & Di Melo – A . E . I . O . U. (Dimitri From Paris Remix)
I mean, French band Cotonete, Brazilian legend DiMelo and Dimitri From Paris…come on! This tune set fire to a NYE beach party in Bahia, Brazil.
Leroy Burgess – Work It Out
Favorite quietly put out the best track that NYC underground club legend Leroy Burgess has released in years. It’s a perfect slow rolling soulful boogie cut, and Patchworks absolutely knocks the production out of the park on this super special record.
Voilaaa – Ku La Foon (JKriv Remix)
I was super excited when I was asked to do this remix and was even more chuffed when Favorite owner Pascal Rioux loved it! It always seems to get a nice response on the floor.
Aldorande – Breakfast in Space (Charles Maurice Dub Version)
Just a groovy mid-tempo chugger with driving percussion, summery wah-wah Clavinet and sparkley electric keys.
