Daniel Vangarde – The Vaults Of Zagora Records Mastermind (1971-1984)
Because Music / Zagora Records
‘The Vaults Of Zagora Records Mastermind (1971-1984)’ is Because Music’s compilation exhuming the vaults of French songwriter and producer Daniel Vangarde, who established the Zagora label with publisher Jean Kluger in 1975. Featuring material from the one and only album that Vangarde himself ever made, it also includes tracks from Starbow, Who’s Who, Ami Stewart and more. As a highly recognised producer and songwriter from the 60s to the 80s, Vangarde worked on classics such as Ottawan’s ‘D.I.S.C.O.’, The Gibson Brothers’ ‘Cuba’ and Black Blood’s ‘Aie a Mwana’. The album will be available to stream as well as to purchase as a double vinyl LP and CD.

Javi Frias – The Spirit EP
Night Shift Spain
Spanish DJ, producer and Night Shift records boss Javi Frias presents a new EP of disco edits that take the vibes of the 70s and re-fit them for the current dancefloor. As you might imagine, each of the four tracks seemingly has party stamped across it in giant capital lettering, from the opening stomper ‘Hot Damn!’ with its bright-as-a-button brass section and the wah wah guitar of ‘Dance To The Music’ to the proto-house of ‘The Spirit’. But the best is saved to last – the bendy funk bassline gymnastics of ‘Feel Good’, quite irresistible.

Suki Soul – Wear It Out – Yam Who? & Jaegerossa Mixes
Midnight Riot Records
Next up & dropping mid December on Midnight Riot, is a rather special one! The much sampled but never remade Stargard anthem ‘Wear It Out’ by Suki Soul featuring Yam Who? & Jaegerossa. It’s a proper disco monster and you will instantly recognize the sample from Pete Heller’s huge filtered house classic ‘Big Love’, and following on from Midnight Riots huge ADE party where Suki Soul performed her stunning live version, the label knew from the feedback it was time to cut & release a new version. Yam Who? & London based musician Rob Aitkin created the new backing track adding live bass, guitar, strings & keys, arranged by Jaegerossa and mixed by the legendary Matt Bandy, it closes the end of a remarkable year for the label as they celebrate their 10th year in the business!

Kapote & Kosmo Kint – Remix EP (Incl. COEO, Andrés, and Tom Jarmey)
Toy Tonics
Label staples and rising newcomers take on Kapote’s latest EP on his own imprint, Toy Tonics, remixing three stellar collaborations with New York soul singer Kosmo Kint. Kicking off the remix EP is familiar face, COEO, with two reworks of ‘Strangers’; a signature style, deep and funky cut, and a bouncy 90’s garage-inspired version. Both are destined for damage on the dancefloor. Next up is rising UK producer, Tom Jarmey, delivering a warm, dubbed-out remix of ‘Misbehave’. Soaked in delay and jittering melodies, Jarmey’s vision adds an ethereal touch to the original track. Dez Andrés rounds things off with a heavily swung, groovy take on ‘Misbehave’; pushing the original vocals to the forefront while laying a foundation of skippy drums and big bass.

Riva Starr X Soul City Connection – Brotherly Love Divine feat Phebe Edwards
Glitterbox Recordings
Internationally acclaimed producer Riva Starr delivers an unexpected mashup of two recent club cuts. Garnering attention from top level selectors upon release in 2021, Riva’s ‘Love Divine’ (featuring soulful vocals from Phebe Edwards) combines with Soul City Connection’s ‘Brotherly Love’, originally released with Big Love records earlier in 2022, to form ‘Brotherly Love Divine’ – a modern track full of timeless musical influences that embodies the sound of Glitterbox. Featuring a variety of remixes, with Jamie 3:26 and Danou P bringing a minimal vibe with classic disco flourishes, whilst Riva’s regular collaborator Mark Broom’s remix is also playful, upping the tempo and fragmenting the vocals. Finally, Nigel Lowis, the mind behind Soul City Connection, provides an edit of the track that incorporates the big and brassy feel of the Big Love original.

79.5 – Club Level (Eli Escobar Remix)
Razor-N-Tape
Razor-N-Tape welcomes Brooklyn-based band 79.5 to the family with the first single from their forthcoming eponymous LP. New York City based 79.5 was started in 2010 by singer-songwriter and composer Kate Mattison. Their sound moves smoothly between 70’s underground disco and sugary sweet girl pop. With just a self-released 12” in circulation, 79.5 was written up in The New Yorker twice based on their live sets alone. In 2019 singer-songwriter and rapper Lola Adanna was added to the line-up, and became a bright new chapter for founding member Kate Mattison and long-time 79.5 saxophonist Izaak Mills. Soulful and psychedelic, the haunting melodies of ‘Club Level’ float above a steady strutting rhythm section, punctuated by moaning baritone saxophone and drenched in washy reverb. NYC mainstay Eli Escobar crafts a masterful remix that leans into 80s nostalgia, with a soundscape and arrangement nothing short of perfection.

Jazz N Palms – Milano (Disco Mix)
Hell Yeah Recordings
Hell Yeah is proud to present the return of Jazz N Palms with a superb new project following the success of his recent summer sell out album Ses Rodes. This new release ‘Milano’ comes as 7″ with radio and instrumental versions, and a digital release that includes a killer six-minute disco rework of this obscure gem. Jazz N Palms is a jazz-inspired project from Italian DJ and producer Riccio. ‘Milano’ came about after Riccio heard Piera Martell’s 1978 soul-jazz track ‘Exotica’ in a mix by Phil Mison. The idea was to re-imagine the song with new lyrics and set it in Milan. A luxurious soul-jazz fusion, Jazz N Palms also reworks this beauty of a track for the dance floor, with a disco version that is full of funky bass and wiggling synths. Lush chords bring the heat as the vocal takes on a more seductive quality and you glide along with the totally infectious groove. This is one timeless package of blissed-out brilliance from the inimitable Jazz N Palms.
