Yam who essential tunes

Lukas Lyrestam – High On Your Love (Ron Basejam Remix)
Skint

Originally released on Clouded House as part of the Costa del Hackney EP, ‘High On Your Love’ soon became a firm favourite with Skint boss Damian Harris who signed the track and Lukas to the label. Well why not bring in Crazy P remix guru Ron Basejam to add some serious heat. Now we’re talking a Patick Cowley-esque sleazy analogue pumping disco direction with stunning effect as he toughens it up for peak moments without losing the original’s charm. Time for hypnotic jackin’, we can’t wait.

Jonnie Vibes Labert – Can’t Stop Dancin’
Fraternity

This production from boogie-era soul specialist Clark Jay has long been a sought-after item amongst collectors, with original copies of the 1981 Peach Tree Records 12″ changing hands for significant sums online. Even if you’re unfamiliar with it – and outside of record collecting circles, most people are – we’d recommend checking the sound clips of this first ever seven-inch reissue. ‘Can’t Stop Dancing’ is particularly sweet and summery, with Jonnie ‘Vibes’ Lambert singing about his love of shaking his stuff atop spacey synthesizer lines and a relaxed, laidback disco-boogie groove. That tidy groove can be enjoyed further on the flipside instrumental mix, which makes excellent use of the original’s female backing vocals and the aforementioned synthesizer melodies.

Jamie Vice – Higher
Midnight Riot

Originally from Brighton, Jamie grew up a lover of all things disco house. After buying his first pair of turntables at the age of 13, he began his obsession with filling his bedroom full of Chaka Khan, Parliament and Chic vinyl. Jamie then started to play warm-up sets at the nights he always loved sneaking in to. He went on to work for several small record labels in Brighton and studied music technology. Now making music inspired by modern day producers like Mousse T, Hifi Sean and Masters At Work, Jamie aims to make music that not only makes people feel good but makes them dance. Now making his Midnight Riot debut with ‘Higher’. Keep an eye on Jamie as he begins his venture into becoming a household name with well-produced, clever and heaps of fun house music hits.

Lucky Mereki – For Your Love
Warm Records

Originally released on South Africa’s Accord Music back in 1991, with hints of Alyson Williams, Joe Smooth & other late 80s R&B / House crossover artists, this second single from the reissue of his 1991 LP ‘You Got Me Dancing’ is for the lovers. The tough Kwaito drum machine rhythm and squidgy bass keeps it on the dancefloor but Lucky’s sweet lovelorn vocals, stabbed horns and gospely keys make this an arms in the air hit. The chorus bangs when the female vocalist steps up. This is the second single from Lucky’s 1991 LP, ‘You Got Me Dancing’, which is being lovingly reissued on Warm, digitally & limited vinyl in October 2021.

Jungle Fire – Atómico EP
Razor-N-Tape Reserve

It’s been 3 years since LA based, Afro-Latin, Tropi-funk outfit Jungle Fire first graced the RNT catalog. Now the west coast boys are back with a 5-track remix EP re imagined by a stellar cast of remixers. On the A, Colombian juggernaut Felipe Gordon takes ‘Atómico’ fully nuclear with a stomping bass-heavy house remix, while JKriv goes elektrik with his ‘Elektrikossa Dub’ sprinkling acid elements over a pulsating rubbery groove. Flipside turntablist Nu-Mark delivers a punchy take on ‘Atómico,’ whilst Jungle Fire member Patrick Bailey goes full-on boogie with his ‘Snake In Da Bronx Dub’ of ‘La Kossa’, leaving the record to wind down with the dubby halftime flavour of Samual Miles remix of ‘Biri Biri’.

Sunburst Band – Far Beyond (Sean McCabe Remix)
Z Records

With hints of Ahmad Jamal’s ‘Swahililand’ and Marta Acuna’s ‘Dance, Dance, Dance’, ‘Far Beyond’ was an absolute dancefloor bomb when originally released by the Sunburst Band aka Dave Lee in 2004. Now Sean McCabe brings his distinguished soulful house touch to Z Records with four signature reworks taken from his Rotations and Reworks project. Stand out jam is his reworking of the Z Records classic ‘Far Beyond’ with added sunshine vibrations, tweaking in all the right places adding his masterful production touch, making it a modern day disco stomper.

Ingram – DJ’s Delight (Michael Gray & Mark Knight Remix)
Unidisc

‘DJs Delight’ by Ingram has to be one of the all time roller boogie anthem. It’s spine tingling to see this re-amerge for the modern scene on the iconic Unidisc with Michael Gray & Mark Knight brought in on production duties. Beefing up the bottom end and adding a fierce relentless synth b-line, this is a sublime wigged out version that perfectly compliments all the original soul and jazz and electro boogie textures. Now that’s what you call a classic!

Chuck Armstrong – Something Got A Hold On Me (Psychemagik remix)
Emotional Rescue

Finally this super rare disco funk gem ‘Something Got A Hold On Me’ by Chuck Armstrong gets its first ever official reissue. A long time South Florida native, Armstrong released numerous gospel toned soul 7”s for labels across the US, starting in 1962 with Cleveland’s Gemini Records before finally releasing his now sought-after album Shakin’ Up in 1976. Coming in at 10 minutes of deep, bottom rattling disco funk, Armstrong’s & his in-house Root Rockers band deliver devastating results with an unrelenting groove, horns, plus Betty Wright & co’s backing vocals. Psychemagik having released a sneaky edit a few years ago, it now seems fit to bring the duo of beat diggers into the “official” fold by commissioning a new rework that extends, loops and arranges this classic around a nice heavy dose of dub effects for daze.
