LV Premier – Joseph Malik – Adult Contemporary (Album Version) [F*CLR]
Joseph Malik has had an incredible career across the last three decades from running his own club nights in Edinburgh in the 90’s where he showcased incredible artists including Gil Scott Heron, Rueben Wilson, The Blackbyrds and the Last Poets to signing to Compost as an artist in the in his own right in the 00’s and releasing his landmark album ‘Diverse’ which is now part of a trilogy with Diverse 2 and 3 landing on F*CLR over the last 5 years.
Along the way he has seen incredible support including album of the month on Gilles Peterson for Diverse 2, for whom he also performed a Brownswood Basement Session on Worldwide, and he has also received heavy rotations from Craig Charles on 6 music who also picked Diverse 3 as his Album of the year, huge and well deserved praise indeed.
Now gearing up for a brand new album in the shape of the much anticipated Proxima Ebony on F*CLR Joseph has this majestic single landing this week. Paying reverence to his inspirations including 70s disco icon Sylvester, legendary producer Patrick Adams and trailblazer, Larry Levan Joseph has delivered a spellbinding song remembering all those who passed or were affected during the AIDS epidemic in the early 80s. Featuring Darren Morris on keys and Jo Wallace on arrangement, string arrangement and backing vocals if this track is a barometer of the new album it could well be Joseph’s most important release to date.
