Tom Trago is returning to his roots with a new series of Disco focused EP’s which it’s safe to say is a cause for celebration here at LV HQ. Tom has dug deep into his archive of unreleased recordings from the last decade retrieving only the hottest, show stopping tracks for Pearls for Pleasure Vol. 1. Released on his own TT imprint and featuring three tracks Hotballs FM, All Right and Take a Chance these are the tracks which have caused dancefloor mayhem wherever he has played them all over the globe. This EP is everything that we love about Tom with tight loops, hook laden vocals, powerhouse synths and swagger aplenty.

One of my favourite disco producers and this track absolutely saves the dancefloor from falling apart any time. I love the build up and the way it is produced. Tip: check out the Butch Edit. Don’t forget to look at the cover 😉
BILLY PAUL/ LET THE DOLLAR CIRCULATE
The production of Jay Dilla featuring Spacek put me on to the original song they sampled. One of those songs that you find when you’re looking for the original of a sample tune.
BASA BASA/ AFRICAN SOUL POWER
Absolute African Disco bomb from Nigeria recorded in the legendary Decca studios in Lagos in 1979. One of those songs with a beautiful symbiosis of electronics and organic played instruments.
LOVE COMMITTEE/ JUST AS LONG AS I’VE GOT YOU ( DIMITRI FROM PARIS EDIT)
Dimitri from Paris knows how to play disco. This was already a big disco favourite. I remember I heard it for the first time in London played by Paul Woolford and I instantly got hooked on this edit.
COEO – DON’T OHO (COEO EDITS)
One of those tunes that you can perfectly end off a set with. This version has all the ingredients to dance with a smile.
NANCY MARTIN/ CAN’T BELIEVE
I still can’t believe that the synth fits so perfectly. The solo starts at 3:20. Remember, it was made in 1982 and still doesn’t sound dated to me. We’re talking about over 40 years – I’m amazed that this production is still so good. WOW
CARIBOU / ODESSA
This one might not be categorised as disco. But for me, it includes everything a disco ball needs. Twirling synths, great vocals and an appealing, awkward arrangement.
EVELYN CHAMPAGNE KING / I’M IN LOVE
For me, this record came in the transition when I started moving from Hip Hop into House. This record was the bridge that connected these two genres for me. And I’m still in love with it.
ELECTRIC EVENING / ELITECHNIQUE
Who would have ever thought that this futuristic Italo disco tune could come from the Netherlands? Big shout out to Clone Records.
BERKLEY IKE JONES / TEARS IN THE GHETTO
How real can a record get? I can instantly feel the honesty it was made with. It goes straight to my heart.
SYLVI FOSTER/ LOVE DAWN
A beautiful example of how disco music can combine all genres in one. This record combines Italian and Afro aesthetics. Isn’t that what disco is all about?
