Kaysoul’s 10 South African Deep House Tracks The World Should Know

img

The South African House scene is one of the most vibrant electronic scenes on the planet right now with a multitude of incredible artists breaking through on the worldwide scene. It is against that back drop that Freerange unleashes it’s City To City: Johannesburg EP, the first in a series which promises to look at stand-out producers from different cities across the globe.

Jimpster has had a long affinity with the South African scene so Johnnesburg is a natural starting point for what has the makings of an incredible series and repping the city are Kaysoul, ScuplturedMusic, SizLeCaude, Radic The Myth, Persie Botta X Jade Nickels & Thabang Baloyi across a stellar 12″ which touches all bases deep.

You can check Kaysoul’s track Icey Baby below and you can grab the EP HERE

To celebrate the release of the EP we asked Kaysoul, one of South Africa’s stand-out producers, to put together a list of South African Deep House tracks which everyone should know and he hasn’t disappointed with tracks from June Jazzin, SculpturedMusic, Phonika, Black Chynese, BNinjas and many more. Check out the full list below!

Kaysoul’s 10 South African Deep House Tracks The World Should Know
1. June Jazzin – Help Me

I like the jazzy feel and signature on this track, a jazzy house cut with a lot of drive and groovy energy. I love the synth playing too. Dope vibes! The lyrical message behind it, it encourages you not to be ashamed of asking for help when you really need it.

2. SculpturedMusic feat. Ziyon – Another Day

This one is a Laidback tune to set a mood and it has that Chicago house feel. I like how the piano compliments the vocals. The message is straight forward, and you have to thank and be grateful that you had an opportunity to see another day.

3. Jullian Gomes, Kuniyuki Takahashi, Sio – Let Me Go

This track is special to me because I’m someone who loves romance and I like that it talks about romance. I like Sio’s voice… She’s one of the best vocalists to come out of South Africa.

4. Phonika – You Need It (KVRVBO remode mix)

This one is one of my favorite tracks for handling the dance floor and getting the crowd moving to it. I like the sound design and it has that Fred Everything’s signature to it.

5. Black Chynese – Holymist

I love this one for its rawness and every time I listen to it, it reminds me of Demarkus Lewis’s sound. Those vibey club tracks! This record is special to me because it’s by an artist from my neighborhood. All the way from East Rand of Johannesburg.

6. Astroelle – Mintsi

I like the sound textures of this track. That bouncy bassline and those synth lines. In South Africa, we call this type of sound “Dub”.

7. BNinjas – Shake

This track by BNinjas reminds me of Glenn Astro’s and Max Graef music. I grew up listening to these guys a lot. I like the swing on this track and that roughness to it.

8. KaySoul – Vous Vous

I love this record because when I created it I was deep into thinking about galaxies and aliens. I like the sci-fi feel it possesses.

9. Bruce Loko – Octopus

I am really into this track because it sounds like it’s title and you can feel the sounds of the Octopus while listening to it. It feels like it’s real!

10. KaySoul feat. Mr. Beale – Icey Baby (Vocal)

Icey Baby is a song about being hurt by someone you trusted wholeheartedly, and they made you lose trust in them because of their actions.
