Crackazat – Evergreen [Freerange Records]

What a year Crackazat has had with releases and remixes with Quantize, Razor-N-Tape, Nervous, Local Talk, Papa, Heist, Real People and many more excellent labels.

His finest release of the year though was his album Evergreen via Jimpster’s Freerange label.

We described it at the time as a cross between Thundercat, Tom Misch, Masters at Work and Mood II Swing but that is only a nod to the musical palate that it drew from.

Indeed Crackazat now has an immediately recognisable sound which he has been developing over the last few years where delicious house is fused with Jazzy flourishes and ever so soulful edges.

A 2022 must have.

Danny Kane – We Come In Peace [Midnight Riot]

We Come in Peace features 16 tracks of boogie influenced house music. Putting his years of production skills to the fore Danny has delivered an album that sounds just about perfect for those summer months and nice reminder right now that we aren’t too far from heading back to Ibiza.

With guest appearances from Princess Freesia, Jack Tyson Charles, Jacqui George, Natasha Kitty Katt, Sophie Paul and Sparkle as well as remixes and edits by JKriv, Art of Tones, Mark Brickman and Yam Who it’s a dizzying array of contemporary talent

They have combined to create a seamless and timeless album which is well worth picking up.

Dave Lee – Produced With Love II [Z Records]

Following on from his appearance on our compilation chart yesterday Dave lee also managed to deliver a brilliant artist for good measure.

Featuring Andreya Triana, Omar, Leroy Burgess, Lifford, Valentine Brothers’ Billy Valentine & Tiffany T’zelle’ on vocal duties Dave delivers under a multitude of his pseudonyms including Mistura, The Sunburst band, Foreal People and Prospect Park. Very fitting from a producer who has more names than most people has releases.

As you would expect it’s divine warm and enticing boogie and disco edged house all the way.

The digital package also comes with Dave’s immense remixes of Leroy Burgess, Str4ta, Destiny II and many more goodies.

Harold Matthews Jr – Peripheral Vision [Good Vibrations Music]

Chicago songwriter and producer Harold Matthews Jr. Harold wrote his first releases in the early 90’s with artists like Ron Trent, Terry Hunter and Maurice Joshua crafting songs such as “Ritual Of Love” and Barbara Tucker’s “I Get Lifted”.

His artist album Peripheral Vision landed this year via Sean McCabes ace Good Vibrations label packed full of effervescent spoken word hip-hop and classy deep house. As you would expect from the artists involved, production wise this one is very hard to beat this year.

Honey Dijon – Black Girl Magic [Classic Music Company]

Another one of the major hitters on this list. Honey Dijon has become one of the biggest names on the scene over the last decade and quite rightfully so on the back of a string of impressive releases and a multitude of dynamite DJ gigs.

Black Girl Magic bottles of of that incredible energy into 15 tracks of super house music.

Featuring some of most exciting names around right now inclduing Cor-Ece, Nikki-O, Kameelah Waheed, Channel Tres, Dave Giles II and Mike Dunn this album really is one of the pinnacles of what house music is in 2022.

Richie Weeks – The Love Magician Archives: Disco New York City 1978-79 Vol 1

This album first featured in Yam Who’s Disco Juice column back in October and is quite story.

Signed by Jerome Derradji to New York’s Past Due Richie is an NYC dance legend who in his hey day of the 70’s appeared on Salsoul and Prelude leading groups like The Jammers and Weeks & Co.

During the 70’s and 80’s Richie collated a goldmine of his incredible unreleased disco of around 300 tracks which Jerome has beeen painstakingly transferring to digital.

Featuring and produced with some of the legends of the NYC scene including Patrick Adams and Leroy Burgess you know this is going to be dynamite.

Described by the label as the disco find of the century, we definitely aren’t going to disagree.

Satin Jackets – Reunion [Eskimo]

Satin Jackets is one of, if not the biggest name on the Nu Disco scene right now. His reputation and following has been growing exponentially year on year across the last decade and 2022 has been no exception.

Reunion is his third artist album after Panarama Pacifico and Solar Nights and sees him in stellar form.

Packed full of lush, evocative tracks Tim effortlessly glides between warm and inviting instrumentals and divine vocal tracks where he enlists the talents of Panama, Metaxas, Tailor and Ivy Falls who all deliver stunning tracks.

Grab this, turn it up to 10, stick the heating up full, break out the shorts and t’s, pour a long cocktail and you have guaranteed summer vibes wherever your are.

Easily one of the most complete Nu Disco albums ever.

John Morales Presents Teddy Pendergrass – The Voice – Remixed With Philly Love [BBE]

So John Morales is stone cold legend of the disco scene, a producer without whose immense contribution the scene would likely sound quite different.

I had a long chat with John earlier this year and it’s a must listed if you are interested in the original disco scene. You can check that here.

John has brought us some incredible projects since his return to production a few years ago including and ace Teena Maria album and his M&M compilaion series.

His Teddy Pendergrass album from earlier in the year is wicked pulling together John’s takes on many of his classics as well as some of his lesser know tracks.

This one sold out immediately first time round but is just about to land again on blue vinyl.

Toby O’Connor – Cosmic Radiation [Tropical Disco]

Toby has been steadily building a fantastic reputation over the last few years and 2022 saw him deliver on that with the release of a full artist album via Tropical Disco.

Comprising everything that is brilliant about his sound inclding quirky instrumentals, funky basslines, multiple genres perfectly combined and all manner of dancefloor groove Cosmic Radiation is a total triumph. It’s an album which delivers joy in equal measures for both home listening and dancefloor adventures alike.

A fun, warm and inviting album so make sure you jump right in.
