Cerrone Love in C Minor Dimitri From Paris

Cerrone – Love in C Minor (Dimitri From Paris Remix)

[Because]

Over four decades on from the release of Cerrone’s disco masterpiece ‘Love In C Minor’, lauded house music duo Franc Moody and French electronic icon Dimitri from Paris reimagine the original, transporting ‘Love in C Minor’ to the age of today with cutting edge production and their signature sonic styles.

Infectiously funky and swung, Franc Moody’s remix knuckles down on the groove and dance floor appeal of the original, adding bassline grooves, jittering percussion and all-in-all, ecstatic club energy.

Dimitri from Paris takes a slightly slower approach, flipping ‘Love In C Minor’ into an equally smooth, club focused pumper that elegantly tips its hat off to the original, whilst injecting a fresh and punchy sound. Also included is a special extended instrumental fit with layers of gorgeous disco shine.

Love Drop Journey Into You Boogie Down

Love Drop – Journey Into You / Boogie Down

[Gamm]

Love Drop has always been a big favourite for vinyl lovers, with an authentic sound which really cuts through sonically & also on the dance floor. The master of reworking obscurities into majestic masterpieces, the Brighton based producer is constantly broadening his horizons with every release whilst always maintaining his underground roots.

A frequent player on GAMM, he returns with a classy two track EP full of warm soul and jazz-funk.

The main track ‘Journey into you’ is a tasteful house-boogie re-interpretation of Leon Ware’s classic modern soul jam…a real stepper! Flip the plastic over and Love Drop does a nice number on a Roy Ayers classic jazz-funk winner!

Flair Chasin The Rain

Flair – Chasin’ The Rain

[Heels & Souls Recordings]

Heels & Souls step back to ‘88 for their sixth reissue, relicensing, with maestro, Sean P remastering Flair’s anthemic soul number ‘Chasin’ The Rain.’

Consisting of Janet Rose (aka UK Soul queen JB Rose), Joe Matz, Peter Bielig, and Peter Shindler, Flair was a predominantly German affair, with Rose being the only UK band member. This is a curious detail considering ‘Chasin’ The Rain’ is often lauded today as a UK Soul classic, however, it’s squeaky-clean production values, and the fact it was mixed and mastered at the famous Jankowski Studio in Stuttgart by three Germans, reveals a somewhat different story.

The track has that UK street soul heavy low-end, but with a synth-pop flavour sprinkled in the mix – swinging synth lines and gated snares aplenty. Yet from chatting to Peter Bielig, who’s been instrumental in getting this record reissued, the sounds sweeping across the Atlantic from the likes of Jam and Lewis – who blended R&B, funk, soul, and pop – were clearly a big influence too.

However, while ‘Chasin’ The Rain’ had all the hallmarks of a chart-breaking hit, Champion prioritized other projects and the record never broke. Sadly, the group disbanded after only two releases, and this musical gem was consigned to the crates of those in the know.

Danny Kane I Love The Way You Do

Danny Kane ft Princess Freesia – I Love The Way You Do

[Midnight Riot]

Danny Kane has proved time and again that he’s one of the nu boogie scene’s greatest funksters. Now back on the block he joins forces again with Princess Freesia with a brand new single for Midnight Riot ‘I Love The Way You Do’.

As you would expect it’s a classic disco house party. The original mix, Danny brings his trademark sub bassline, melted with disco strings and heavy piano chords. Featuring sensuous female vocals from Princess Freesia it’s another smash through and through.

Sweden’s finest Opolopo drops by to deliver another boogie masterpiece, adding hot guitar licks, spaced out Fender Rhodes, a squelchy bassline with a killer breakdown for total dancefloor mayhem plus an added full-length instrumental for those DJs who like to get busy in the mix!

Quantic feat Andreya Triana Stand Up

Quantic feat Andreya Triana – Stand Up

[Play It Again Sam]

Empowering disco groover ‘Stand Up’ is released on Play It Again Sam and was recorded at Selva, Quantic’s own recording studio based in Brooklyn, NY. Will explains, “Stand Up speaks to the everyday person, the everyday struggles for everyday people. It is celebratory but at the same time about pushing forward, standing strong in what you believe in and creating power through love and dedication.” Across his 20-years-deep discography it might be honey-coated synths or the natural lilt of live instrumentation that catch your ear, maybe even the arresting performance of a vocalist, but whatever the style on any given record, the Quantic stamp stands for soul-enriching sounds. With new chapters constantly being written, it’s a story which only deepens with time – a true reflection of global music’s eternally transient nature. Stay tuned for more!

Marcel Vogel LYMA No Time EP

Marcel Vogel & LYMA – No Time EP

[Boogie Angst]

The bright new duo, Marcel Vogel & LYMA return to Boogie Angst with their new EP ‘No Time’. Funkiness and abstraction take center stage on this EP, opening up with ‘Free Time’, featuring filtered vocals and an unconventional structure that blends rich synths with dusty analog stabs and 1990s rave plucks. The tempo slows down on Easy featuring subtle beatbox textures, tiny synth plucks, all ending up in a delightful culmination of delayed textures. Broken Wings begins with a captivating vocal performance, leading to a sturdy Roland bass drum, sustained chords, and resonant arp sequences. ‘Flame On’ creates an almost tropical atmosphere with looping, scattered vocals and an abundance of cowbells. All before the EP closer, ‘You’re A Star’, rounds things off with clunky basslines, a steady groove and hypnotic pitched vocals. A special vinyl edition of ‘No Time’ will also grace our stores soon.

Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku 電子音楽の美学 The Aesthetics of Japanese Electronic Music Vol.2

Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku / 電子音楽の美学 (The Aesthetics of Japanese Electronic Music)” Vol.2

[Cosmocities]

On this 2nd volume, focus is laid on the boogier side of Japanese sonics. Seiji Ono’s chugger ‘Celebrate Your Life’ a buoyant ode to Larry Levan’s Paradise Garage, followed by Uyama Hiroto’s Afro-Bossa number ‘Compass’ delivers a suspended moment in time, halfway the soothing ethereality of Brazilian folk and patterns of African music. On ‘Pray’, J.A.K.A.M. takes us on a ride across dunes of sand and lush melodic abundance. Yuu Udagawa turns in the jacking ‘We Float’, a proper NYC-style piece of abstract hip-hop and Chicagoan house whereas Jazztronik summons ancient woodlands spirits on ’Neon Forest’. We all know a classic slab of piano house is hard to resist & Brisa opts for this on ’State of Mind’. The Backwoods remix of Ryoma Takemasa ‘Deepn’’ opens a spacious window that looks out onto a dreamy skyscape. The Backwoods – alias DJ Kent, steps up with the big-room remix of ‘Cloud Nine’ – whilst Hiroshi Watanabe’s ‘RaTaTaTam’ morphs into an entrancingly beautiful mix of slo techno and neo-classical orchestration. Graced with similar melodic accoutrements, Satoshi Fumi’s rework of Tomi Chair ‘Remorse’ offers a grandiose and mood-enhancing display of piano-riddled techno bravura. A magmatic finale that lacks neither that stadium-sized oomph, nor Fumi’s hallmark of all-around compositional excellence.
