It’s very nearly summer, with the sun trying it’s best to break through here in the UK. It’s that time that the Disco vibes shine through taking over the beaches and bars across the Med and as always Midnight Riot is leading the way heading back to the golden isle for more packed gigs.
One the release front this month there is a huge Yam Who and Suki Soul rework of classic Freak for You alongside hot tracks from Da Lukas, Domino DB and Groovemasta and a huge one from Jung Soul Which you can check below.

Casbah 73 – Doing Our Own Thing (Dimitri From Paris Remix Part 1)

In 2018 Casbah 73 aka Oli Stewart released ‘Love Saves The Day’ on Lovemonk, later picked up by Glitterbox and put out for a much wider release. In 2019 Casbah 73 dropped the AA sided ‘To Be Free’ & ‘Doing Our Own Thing’ on 12” vinyl, with support from the Blessed Madonna, Dimitri From Paris, Rahaan, Kenny Dope and Folamour. Fast forward to 2023, Casbah 73 revisits the 2019 success with a package that includes two Dimitri from Paris remixes on 7” vinyl. DFP works his magic on Casbah 73’s organic disco grooves with a set of remix treatments of the jazzy funky disco banger that surpass all expectations. While preparing the stems for Dimitri, Oli discovered some takes that didn’t make it into the original mix and used this opportunity to create two new versions of ‘To Be Free’, both of which retain the organic groove of the original while adding new elements that result in a decisive turn towards the dancefloor. All four tracks are included on the digital package.

Jung Soul – Hot For Love feat Louise Clare Marshall

Introducing Jung Soul to the Midnight Riot family with ‘Hot For Love’, a seriously classy debut for the London based label. Consisting of Bah Samba’s Julian Bendall and Stanley T. Jones aka Congellous, they recently released ‘Close Your Eyes’ for Defected / Big Love. The lads have been back in the studio to deliver us ‘Hot For Love’ featuring the glorious vocals of Louise Clare Marshall (LF Systems, Jools Holland etc). The story of Philly legendary Soul star Teddy Pendergrass continues to be unveiled by BBE & American producer John Morales. Morales has spent much of the last decade reworks many of Teddy’s classic songs from the original multi-track & this resultant two-disc CD set is as inspired as you’d expect, with Morales delivering a blend of peak-time ready revisions of surging dancefloor anthems (‘The More I Get, The More I Want’, ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’, ‘You Can’t Hide From Yourself’, ‘Life is a Song Worth Singing’) plus sensitive revisions of deeper catalogue cuts and stunning reworks of jaw-dropping slow jams.

79.5 – 79.5 – Album

In December 2022 Razor-N-Tape first welcomed the Brooklyn-based band 79.5 to the family. Named after an imaginary radio station, RNT are now proud to present 79.5’s second album. Soulful and psychedelic, their new collection’s masterful melodies may be hard to categorise, from 70’s underground disco to acid jazz to sugary sweet pop. Its very existence is a protest of the old boy’s club in the music industry, and a personal triumph against all odds while illuminating the most beautiful collaboration between friends. The current line-up includes singer, songwriter and composer Kate Mattison, singer and rapper Lola Adanna, drummer Caito Sanchez (Charles Bradley, Lee Fields), bassist Andrew Raposo (Midnight Magic, Hess Is More) and sax player + flautist Izaak Mills.

Lovebirds feat Uri Gincel – Fly Away EP

The latest collaboration from the Lovebirds see’s him joins forces with Uri Gincel, one of the most well-known and prolific jazz musicians of the city of Berlin. Their ‘Fly Away EP’ is the first electronic club-oriented material they have created together. The title track is a wild and wonderful trip which develops through four different stages, whereas ‘Playing Games’ lives more in the traditional house come deep house realm, built around a luscious Rhodes lick that moves back and forth into deep reverberation. Closing the EP with ‘Tuna Melts My Heart’, a beatless, atmospheric cut created by just three instruments: the Fender Rhodes, a Prophet 5 Pad, and a Korg 700 bass line, all recorded in just one take on top of each other.

Bruce Leroys & Helóra – Tempo (Art of Tones/Aureum Remix)

The title track of this release is the first work of the poet and singer Helóra Galhardo, the lyrics speak of the most precious asset that we all have and passes the message that we must live with all the intensity possible, but paradoxically in a light and free way. In the sweet voice of the interpreter, the remix by producer Ludovic Llorca a.k.a. Art of Tones, has a jazzy disco house atmosphere characteristic of the best French tracks of the style, and could be on the case of any great master from the producer’s countryside. The second track on the EP is a dub version of the original track, produced by Bruce Leroys himself, with a faster tempo than the original and the Art of Tones remix, the track could very well fit in the set of different artists, a solid and deep groove, bits of vocals unseen in the original track, percussive, spiritual, hypnotic, full of atmosphere, rhodes chords, with special attention to bass and subs. A 100% “dance floor oriented” track.

The Chocolate Fudge Band – Everything ( Dj Fudge extended mix)

Some of you may be familiar with Mani Hoffman, the French singer & songwriter who in 2001 scored a huge platinum hit with The Supermen Lovers, ‘Starlight’. What a delight to see him make an appearance on Dave Lee’s Z Records. The Chocolate Fudge Band comprises DJ Fudge & Mani, who have cooked up this anthem of a song. Rich & gooey with funk flavours, everything about this track feels good for the soul, be it the shuffling clav, swelling brass sections, locked in rhythm sections or the incredible vocal talents of Mani and Sophie Delila who deliver something truly special here. We’re sending out a warning here that this song will get stuck in your head and keep you coming back time and time again for more of that sweet dopamine hit.
