Teddy Pendergrass – John Morales remixes
BBE Music

BBE Music presents a brand new album from Philadelphia & soul music’s very own, Teddy Pendergrass. Remixed by pioneering producer and engineer, John Morales, his masterful & remix work affords these classic songs improved clarity & reveals the incredible musicianship of the MSFB players that might have been overlooked on original release. Curated authoritatively, remixed with love and passion, the John Morales’ collection revisits his relationship with Teddy’s and Gamble & Huff’s music as compellingly and immersively as when it was new. Teddy’s timeless force resides equally in his talent for portraying truthfully the joys and hurts, beliefs and doubts, blessings and challenges of our lives, and in the bravery of confronting them all with an honesty that is still utterly extraordinary.

Alex Blex – Nice Move Peter
Partyfine

Yuksek, the French DJ & music producer & his PartyFine label, touches on everything around the dance music spectrum that is “more or less disco”. Alex Blex makes his Partyfine debut with ‘Nice Move Peter’. At first glance, his music is normal, with stable rhythms and honest chords but then suddenly, without realising it, we entered his world, where New Beat rubs shoulders with Pink Floyd, mixed with disco influences from the fiery Carrere Musique label. A superb debut and destined to go to far flung places after its initial release!

Homegrown Syndrome – Got The Love / Party Vibes
Athens Of The North

The ubiquitous Athens Of The North are renowned for dropping extremely hard to find “45”, that have long been in demand amongst collectors. Next up on Edinburgh homie Euan Fryer’s label are Homegrown Syndrome, a band based in LA but were originally majors players on the Memphis scene. Found in the attic of Jerry Jones. ‘Got The Love’ is a chunky funky stepper with swirling synths and disco energy. ‘Party Vibes’ then takes off once more on hip swig claps, big arching chords and strident drums.

The Dukes & Double Dee – Always Better
Midnight Riot

Rewind to 1990, Double Dee struck gold with their huge international smash ‘Found Love’ which became one of those all-time classics hammered by the likes of Sasha, Frankie Knuckles and Pete Tong. Fast forward to 2022 and they’re back, making their Midnight Riot debut. Linking up with fellow Italian production team The Dukes, they deliver another masterpiece, ‘Always Better’. Blending Mediterranean heat and early morning sleaziness, the energy here is irresistible, the message undeniably uplifting. On the remix tip, studio don Da Lukas out of Palermo, Italy, nicely notches up the tempo with added tasty beats, stretching out the mix to just over 6mins, it’s perfect nu-disco packed with dance floor class!

Chinaski – No Pop No Fun
Running Back

Understanding of the past, whilst looking to the future is the new Chinaski’s album ‘No Pop N Fun’ for Gerd Janson’s mighty Running Back. Drenched in sepia colours and faded VHS tapes memories, fed by a science-fiction that never became a fact, ‘No Pop N Fun’ is essentially made with the ultramodern instruments of yesteryear. It’s an ode to Disco Piu, a postcard from the early days of Frankfurt’s Dorian Gray or the search and itch for a time machine. Chinaski’s main musical reference points are all on show here: instrumental pop that you can dance to, pastel melodies that stick in your head mixed with downtempo ballads for video game characters. Genius!
