Celebrated UK Soulful house producer Ben Smethurst has spent the last 20 years steadily building a reputation as one of the UK’s most talented artists with releases on some of the globes finest electronic labels including BMG, MN2S & King Street. His latest release see’s the launch of a brand new alias The Pleasure Principle, a pseudonym dedicated to the disco edges of house music.
His brand new release Coral Drive hustler on his own Expressive label see’s him enlist some incredible artists to help him bring his vision to fruition. On vocal duties is the hugely talented Heidi Vogel who as lead singer with the brilliant Cinematic Orchestra has appeared all over the globe including shows at Coachella, Glastonbury, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Blue Note Jazz Festival and the BBC 6 Music Festival. She has also performed/recorded with Quincy Jones, The Brand New Heavies, Lil’ Louie Vega, Isaac Hayes and many more legendary artists.
On remix duties step-up Toni Economides, one of London’s musical heavyweights who has turned in a scorcher of disco dub. Sparkling with summer wonder and promise it’s a groove which would sound just as perfect by the pool at Pikes or building an atmosphere at Hi.
Our premier today is Ben’s Original mix and it’s very special indeed. Warm and vibrant Ben’s production perfectly captures the quality of 70’s disco but with that 2021 production nous. Heidi’s vocal is outstanding, packed full of soul, expression and depth. It’s a wonderful collaboration which has resulted in a timeless cut.
