9 FREE Disco & Funk Edits Vol. 1

First in a brand new Series from LV online where we will be collating some of the killer cuts that we have come across on Soundcloud that we think you should know about into bite sized features.

Over the coming months we will be covering all the genres we love on LV online and we are kicking things off today with some of the best FREE disco and funk edits from some of our favourite producers. Let’s face it who doesn’t love a FREE DL.

If you love your Disco please check out our playlist on Soundcloud HERE

Don Ray – Got To Have Nothing (Mighty Mouse Dub Edit)

We are big fans of MM, his edits always kick ass, you can also check his excellent Prince, Steely Dan and Abba edits HERE. For this one he takes on Don Ray’s 1978 synth laden disco groove and turns it into a dub heavy 2019 club anthem. Peak time goodness right here.

Ken@work – Happiness

As the excitement continues to grow for Chaka Khans latest album ‘Hello Happiness’ which is produced by none other than Switch there have been some excellent edits of her first 2 singles kicking about. Our favourite so far sees Ken@work going to town on ‘Happiness’. If you need a copy for your DJ sets make sure you grab this one.

Idris Muhammad – Could heaven ever be like this (mikeandtess edit 4 mix)

This is a truly superb club mix of Idris Muhammads 1977 disco funk masterpiece. It’s a hard track to tackle so hat’s off to Mikeandtess for doing it more than justice.

Dee Dee Sharp – Easy Money (Motte Re-Edit)

Motte has been building up a serious following with a steady stream of brilliant edits and remixes. Here he takes on what is arguably songstress Dee Dee Sharp’s best track building it into a groove laden dancefloor killer.

Candi Staton – Victim John Morales M+M Mix

When it comes to remixes John Morales is the boss, pure and simple. He has remixed pretty much everyone who is anyone. He did a brilliant feature for us recently on the most important tracks in his career, check it HERE. On this track he remixes one of the goddesses of the disco and soul world Candi Staton. A match made in heaven we say.

Get Down Edits – Deep & Slow

Get Down Edits have surely being treading the path towards the A-list of edits producers. Their work regularly features in ours sets as I’m sure it does for many of you reading this. Here they turn Tamiko Jones ‎1976 track ‘Let It Flow’ into a dance-floor groove of the highest order.

Chic – Le Freak (Pete Le Freq Freakin Rework)

Another producer who we have been watching closely is Pete Le Freq who is going from strength to strength at the moment with some great remixes working from the multitracks where possible for the best results. Here he takes apart Chic legendary track Le Freak, it’s a party tune through and through, get on it.

Parissior – Jazzy Funk (Original Mix)

Spa In Disco is a great label releasing a steady stream of sun drenched disco and house. They also drop the occasional free giveaway and they are always worth checking. Parissior’s heavy funk laden ‘Jazzy Funk’ is no exception. One for the more clued up floors who still want to get down.

Dave Mathmos – The Funk Soldiers

As I’m sure you know by now we need absolutely no reason whatsoever to regularly post Prince related tracks and features. Here Dave Mathmos tightens Prince’s loose funk jam Musicology up giving it some serious kick and making it eminently playable for DJ sets.

We hope you enjoyed our first track round up. We’ll be back with many more like this.
