The Chocolate Fudge Band – Everything (DJ Fudge Extended Mix)
[Z Records]
The Chocolate Fudge band is a collaboration between DJ Fudge & Mani Hoffman.
They released Everything back in March and it’s a track which has grown in stature throughout the year.
Sumptuous, rich and warm it features Mani and Sophie Delila on vocals sitting atop a lush soulful instrumental.
Heartwarming and immediate this is a timeless joy of a track.

House Gospel Choir – Angels (Crackazat Remix)
[To The Rock]
Landing on the excellent To The Rock label, which has been behind a multitude of quality underground house music over the last couple of years, this one hit the heights thanks to a delicious Crackazat remix.
The original is smooth and soulful but Crackazat takes the plaudits here as he lifts this one straight to the heart of the dancefloor.
With an incredible lead vocal from Morgan alongside the soulful life affirming choir Angels really is something truly special which brings to mind the equally wonderful early 90’s group Sounds of Blackness

Jamiroquai – Little L (Dave Lee Disco Re-Blend)
[Z Records]
This remix it’s safe to say came out of the blue but it was immediately apparent as soon as it dropped that it was more than a little special and has been dominating vinyl and digital charts since.
A surprise release from Dave Lee the 12″ was backed by his equally brilliant remix of Sheila & B Devotions Spacer making it one of the most essential 12″s of the year.
Jamiroquai really was a generational talent who is having something of a renaissance right now, thirty years on still no-one funks like Jay Kay.
Joey Negro worked his magic on this with a huge Brit Funk bassline adding to the velvety smooth feel and making this one a dancefloor smash all over again.

Lovedrop – Journey Into You
[Gamm]
Lovedrop doesn’t release too often but when he does you better sit up and take notice as he’s a seriously talented producer.
Journey into you, which was backed by the equally excellent Boogie Down, is in equal parts soulful, funky and euphoric.
Originally recorded by Leon Ware Journey Into You has everything that you need for that peak time dancefloor with a bubbling bassline, huge strings and an utterly spellbinding vocal.
There are only a handful of 12’s still kicking about so make sure that you grab this one sharpish.

Madeeha, Sean McCabe & DJ Mixjah – Still Standing Here (Sean McCabe Remix)
[Good Vibrations Music]
Sean McCabe always delivers the highest quality cuts and his remix of Dj Mixjah & Madeeha’s Still Standing Here on his own Good Vibrations music is no exception.
Smooth and delightful and with a great backstory it’s one of the Soulful house cuts of the year to date for sure.
Combining an afro edged backing track with Madeeha’s heart warming vocal delivery this one deserves all the plaudits, and plays, that it gets.

Michele Chiavarini & Carmichael Musiclover – Express Yourself
[Spry]
Michele Chiavarini is one of the true underground heroes of the Soulful House scene. He’s a multi instrumentalist with an incredible background in the music industry having worked with everyone from Ennio Morricone and Ray Charles to Kylie.
Landing this month this is a rework of his track Express Yourself from 2019 and he has delivered something of a Soulful house classic here turning the warmth levels up to balmy Ibizan summer night.
Expect a monster bassline, exuberant keys and a quite stunning vocal from Carmichael.

Micky More & Andy Tee, Reverendos Of Soul, Anduze – Devoted
[Groove Culture]
Groove Culture continued it’s extraordinary drive towards becoming one of the finest house labels on the planet in 2023 and in truth I could have chosen any number of their tracks for this list.
However my personal favourite from their 2023 schedule is Devoted, a track which lifts you up into it’s arms and holds you tight combining subtle disco funk with a groove heavy bassline and a luscious vocal which is packed with subtle and sultry harmonies.

Sense Of Sound Singers – Spread Love (Yam Who? Extended Gospel Mix)
[Midnight Riot Records]
Yam Who?’s output in 2023 was exceptional. He is a producer who it appears rarely sleeps and again any number of his tracks could have graced this list.
His remix of Sense of Sound’s Spread Love has everything that a classic soulful house track should have. From the the huge vocal to the hook laden strings and a dancefloor shaker of a bassline.
Wonderful work.

Spencer Morales ft Phebe Edwards – Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin (M+M Main Mix)
[Quantize Recordings]
There are few superlatives left to describe John Morales, he is one of the founding fathers of our scene and a remix legend whose production work with Sergio Munzibai as M+M will likely never be surpassed for quality and sheer mind boggling quantity.
John is having something of a well deserved victory lap right now choosing his projects carefully and delivering some of the finest work of his career.
Such it was with his remix of the Spencer Morale’s (DJ Spen) ft Phoebe Edwards Whatcha gonna do with my lovin, a stunning slice of disco edged feel-good Soulful House.
