Lea Lisa – Keys Of Life (Original Piano Mix) [KARAKUL]

We have heavily covered this release over the last week or so and for very good reason, Lea is a very serious talent indeed. Coming back to the scene after some time away Lea has very deep roots in house music. Also featuring two very tasty mixes from legend Glenn Underground our favourite mix is the divine original of Key’s of Life with it’s wonderfully warm and engaging keys, beautifully programmed drums and joyful bass which come together beautifully to simply exude life affirming joy. This EP is a real glowing example of just how brilliant house music can be when it’s done with knowledge and passion. We fully expect Lea to be a firm fixture on the circuit again once things start to open up again. Check out our full interview with her along with a brilliant mix HERE.

Brian Kage & Taho – D-Twah [Michigander Music]

This is another release which we covered heavily on LV online. Brian Kage is one of the underground heroes of the Detroit scene, running labels, working as a mastering engineer and releasing incredible music in his own right on a variety of top class labels. His latest release on his own Michigander Music label see’s him team up with another scene head in the shape of Taho. Our favoruite track from the aptly named Detroit EP is this piano stomper which could have been made anywhere in the last 25 years and will still sound incredible in 25 more such is the timeless quality of the track. It’s another absolute must have. We spoke to Brian about his career and all things Detroit. Check out the interview HERE.

Scan 7 – All For Me (Alma Negra Remix) [Heist Recordings]

Heist Recordings annual Round Up compilations are one of our favourite labels series. If you haven’t caught any of the previous editions, and they are now up to Volume 7, each year they get all the artists who have released on the label over the year to remix a track by one of the other artists, It always throws up some truly outstanding combinations. This years edition featured Alma Negra, Crackazat, Teleseen, Scan 7, Pitto, Nebraska, Kassian and label heads Dam Swindle. We recently featured Alma Negra remixing Detroit’s Scan 7. It’s deep and groovy as hell. Dreamy vocals, a hip shaker of a percussion line and energetic layered synth lines give this one both class and dancefloor nous aplenty.

Felipe Gordon, Toro Moratto – The Colombian Excursions of House Music [Shall Not Fade]

For anyone who hasn’t particularly been paying attention this year Colombian artist Felipe Gordon has been absolutely owning 2021. The release of his debut album A Landscape Onomatopeya has seen Felipe win a whole new legion of fans and has now sold out at the distributors. There are a few copies still available via the Shall Not Fade bandcamp HERE but we would suggest picking one up sharpish.

We could have picked several tracks from this album for this list but we have gone with The Colombian Excursions of House Music. Deep, smooth and jazzy it see’s Felipe in outstanding form on the key’s building a track which is impossible not to fall completely in love with. Add in some subtle percussion and a head bobbing bassline and this one is very much a perfect example of why Felipe is destined for very large things indeed in the months ahead. We spoke to Felipe about the making of the album among other things HERE.

Jimpster – Soul Spectral ft. Greg Paulus [Freerange]

Jimpster is another artist who has been having a bit of rip roaring 2021. Currently high up the Traxsource charts with the superb This Thin, which is definitely also worth checking out, here we are going to go for this gem from his recent Freerange EP. Teaming up with Greg Paulus, Soul Spectral is a cut with a yearnful drama. Greg is in fine form on the trumpet as loopy percussion lines, smooth pads and dreamy atmospherics add plenty of depth to this cut. Sit back, turn this one up and just bathe yourself in it’s beauty. x

Underground Evolution – Soul Searcher (Joe Clausell Remix) [Ugly Music]

Joe Clausell is an artist who has been prolific over the last year. Responsible for one of our tracks of the year in 2020 with his remix of Vince Watson’s Progress he has kept delivering time and again in the interim. Here he pops up on Ugly Music reimagining a Body & Soul classic in the shape of Underground Evolution’s Soul Searcher as part of the labels 25th Anniversary.

Joe’s style has become unmistakable over the last few years. His tracks are packed with intensity and warmth as well as an incredible standard of musicianship and all of that comes to bear with this stunning remix.

The Spaces Between Ft. Harry Dennis – Ghosts (BSO Remix#1 Dub) [FCLR]

Easily one of the most exciting comebacks of 2021 sees Black Science Orchestra’s original members Ashley Beedle and Rob Mello reuniting along with newcomer to the ranks Darren Morris. First up on the BSO plate was a pretty spectacular slate of remixes for The Spaces Between. Thankfully this one is now just about to land on vinyl and is another must have. We premiered this sublime dub from the EP, it’s a track which simply oozes class. Hypnotic synths, gentle keys, Sax riffs, vibes, percussion and echo heavy spoken vocal stabs all come together for a track which is very special indeed. Don’t miss it!

Prequel – I Said I Wasn’t Gonna Fall In Love No More [Lumberjacks In Hell]

Seriously delayed on hitting the shelves due to the impact of Covid on the vinyl pressing plants Prequel’s Don’t Let Me Be The Last To Know EP has thankfully now arrived. This Australian artist has been flexing some serious muscle recently with the release of what was a wonderful album in the shape of Love Or (I Heard You Like Heartbreak). It was another album which quickly sold out, indeed there only a couple of copies left on Discogs and we would urge you to snap one up quick sharp. His three track EP for Lumberjacks in Hell is packed with deep club business. We have gone for I said I Wasn’t With Gonna Fall in Love No More with it’s deep disco baseline and undeniable groove. Proper club heat for the floors that know what’ it’s all about.
