It has been an incredible year for house music as producers the world over used their abundance of spare time to hit the studio and hone their art preparing for the hopefully brighter days to come in 2021 and help keep our collective spirits up in the meantime.

This list was a very difficult one to tie down to just three tracks as our inbox was literally overflowing with fantastic music all year. For no apparent reason in the end all the artists names start with an S which is where the similarities end on these tracks. These three have barely left the LV HQ decks since they landed, if it’s possible to wear out .wav files then I’ve given it a good go.

Scruscru Meets Meowsn’ – Cool Party Tool [Outplay]

Let’s make no bones about it Scruscru absolutely nailed 2020, to such an extent that I actually had a shortlist of his tracks that were all close to landing on this Essential 3 including Mellow Yellow and Akazukin. His joint EP with Meowsn shone out for me though combining club nous with jazz edges and off the wall wacky production. It had a very distinct sound which Scruscru excels at creating across his releases. He quite clearly threw the rule book out the window some time ago.

This was a track which we had the pleasure of premiering HERE and we also spoke to Fouk who are behind the label Outplay about the release and they put together a quite brilliant label mix for us which you can check HERE

Probably somewhere in the grey are between deep house and house its swing and shuffling Todd Terry esque beats, heavy bassline, Jazzy key’s and powerful looped up second movement saw this one stand out for us.

Soul Renegades – Speak To Me (Original Mix) [Local Talk]

This one landed only last month via the always outstanding Local Talk label who had a fantastic 2020 with notable release from LV favourites Opolopo, Soulphiction, Coflo & Felipe Gordon. Speak to me is a very special record indeed. Featuring an ever so soulful vocal, powerful keys and energy packed but never overpowering drums it is at it’s core the perfect example of less is more in production. It features a series of layers which ebb and flow throughout the track always providing space for each other to breathe and have their moment as they combine to create a modern classic which has its roots in 90’s Chicago. Whilst the original mix is undoubtedly going to be the one for our dancefloors it’s also worth checking the incredible James L’Estraunge Orchestra Remix whose soaring strings and shuffling beats are also quite outstanding.

Sweet Fruity Brunch – Disco Spider [Moment Cinétique]

If there was one track which we could be sure to banish the utter crapness that was 2020 then it was this jazz edged jackin’ joyous gem from Sweet Fruity Bunch. SFB is a pseudonym of the outrageously talented Donnie Moustaki who laid down one of our stand out mixtapes of the year which you can check HERE. He is another artist who is very much helping shape the future sound of House music right now  and we are very much looking forward to seeing what he has in store for us in 2021.

Released by one of our favourite labels of 2020 Moment Cinétique, who are most definitely worth checking out in depth, our advice is to turn this up loud sit back, close your eyes and we dare you not to smile.
