Our first Le Visiteur Selects Deep House feature of 2021 see’s us tie up 2020 by praising some of the finest tracks that landed in the last few weeks of the year. Despite everything that went on last year it was an absolutely golden year for electronic music as producers across the globe found themselves with much in the way of free time on their hands. These are some of the finest tracks not just of the last couple of months but indeed which landed in 2020. They are in no particular order so make sure you check out the list in full as it’s just as hot at the bottom as it is at the top

Laroye – Be The Change ft. Carlos Mena [Freerange]

Brighton based Laroye’s Be The Change EP was part of what was an absolutely outstanding year for Freerange. Indeed it was a label which was right up there as one of the labels of they year for us. This is a wonderful EP from the stunning deep and sumptuous afro edged spoken vocal of the title track through to the bubbling dancefloor deep house synth jam of Twisted. Sadly this one is long since sold our on vinyl as it was very limited but a must have on digital.

Mark Hawkins – Emerald [Houndstooth]

Landing back on Houndstooth after a two year hiatus Mark Hawkins Whole New Internet Game EP is a stunning affair with tracks featuring Donnell Knox, aka D-Knox, on vocals. It’s four track duration was in no way long enough, channeling everything from 90’s era 808 state to Italo dream House and deep smooth spoken vocal goodness. My favourite track from the EP Emerald is stunning slice of synth house perfection. This is music to while those long lockdown days away while dreaming of brighter moments to come. Here Mark Hawkins, who has previously released as Marquis Hawkes, brings all of the many different sounds that he has crafted across the years into perfect clarity and we can only look forward to what he has in store for us next.

Glenn Davis – Special (Original Mix) [F*CLR Music]

F*CLR have consistently been knocking it right out of the park with their recent slate of releases. Their most recent see’s them invite super talented Irish producer and LV favourite Glenn Davis back to the fold with the classic New York 90’s vibe of Special. It’s a track which very much lives up to it’s name from the subtle keys and flowing pads to the classic vocal while synth stabs and on point drum programming complete this deep bomb. The Ashley Beedle mixes are absolutely top class too so it’s tasty package all round. It’s out on digital now and vinyl in March, this one will fly out so make sure you get on it quick.

Junktion – Smokes [24 Carrot]

Fouk and their label Outplay had another outstanding year sticking by their quality over quantity approach to releases. They had outstanding EP’s for Clive From Accounts, and Scruscru Meets Meowsn from which Cool Party Tool was one of our top 3 house tracks of the year, check that one HERE. We had a chat with Fouk about the label and they also recorded an outstanding mix for us both of which you can check HERE.

Right at the end of the year they released a brilliant four track EP via their 24 Carrot offshoot label with two tracks each from Fouk and Junktion. All four tracks are ace with Chicken Dinner rightfully picking up loads of airplay and DJ support. We premiered this gem from the EP. Chugging atmospheric deep house heat all the way!

Soulphiction – Niederbeat Gospel Dub [Local Talk]

Niederbeat Gospel Dub landed back in June on Local Talk following Soulphiction’s brilliant 24/7 Love Affair album from the tail end of 2019 which has been a firm fixture on the LV HQ stereo. It’s safe to say we’re firm fans. Niederbeat Gospel Dub is a track which has crept up on us over the last few months popping up time and again. The deep synth bass, thumping drums and breathless vocal delivery give it a powerful effortless energy which will just tear up the dancefloor when that is a thing again. Backed with the wonky piano gem that is Feelin Good this is a brilliant EP. Bring on the next album we say!

Jimpster & Matt Masters – Area E3 [Freerange]

Well I did say that Freerange had been on fire in 2020 so it’s only fair that we let label boss Jimpster in on the fun here alongside Matt Masters who also works at the label. Area E3 features on their collaborative EP Dub Come Down which is a real lockdown gem. Area E3 channels their inner Metro Area to devastating effect. Bubbling basslines, synth stabs, flowing pads and metronome perfect drums. The EP features 3 sublime tracks so make sure you track it down in full. More of this please!

We spoke to Matt a few weeks ago about the EP and he recorded a very tasty mix for us, check them HERE.

Terrence Parker: Listen to the Melody (Terrence Parker’s Chasmelodic Mix) [Intangible Records]

Landing right at the end of the year Terrence Parker’s Listen To The Melody see’s him at the top of his game. Combining powerhouse drums with an ever so soulful vocal line which is uncredited but sounds not unlike a 90’s Michael Watford at the peak of his powers. It’s another track which has that classic 90’s house vibe flowing through it’s DNA and will appeal to the heads as well as the 2021 house converts. Outstanding track!

DuBeats – Cutting And Changing (Original Version) [i Records]

Dubeats had an absolute scorcher of a second half of 2021 as he laid claim to being one of the finest deep house producers out there right now. Indeed I could have picked any number of his recent tracks for this list but the deep off kilter key vibe of Cutting and Changing really hit home here. Make sure you keep and eye out for him in 2021, it’s going to be a BIG year!

We spoke to Dubeats recently and he put together a brilliant mix for us. Check them HERE

Session Victim & Erobique – Good Intentions (live at Jazz Cafe)

70’s keys, live bass, excitable crowd noises what’s not to love about this track. It reminds us of those communal times that 2020 took away from us and which will hopefully return in aces this year. Landing in early January on a limited 7″ this is one very serious track. Indeed it’s backed up by the ever so funky 80’s-eque synth groove of The TV Extra Band which could just as easily have featured here. This release has future classic written all over it. Make sure that you grab it quick!

Red Rack’em – In Love Again

Red Rack’em had a great 2020. Against all the odds the year threw he pivoted very quickly launching a music and mentoring membership via his Patreon which is now seeing considerable success and which you can check out HERE. We highly recommend you do if you are serious about making it in the music industry in 2021 as Red Rack’em is a font of knowledge. We also asked him to pick his 3 essential tracks of 2020 which you can check HERE.

Usually we only share brand new heat in these columns but this re-release which is well worth picking up. In Love Again is a bonefide classic, originally landing in 2013 via the superb Wolf Music it has been a hugely sought after 12″ since selling for huge prices over on Discogs. Thankfully they have now done a limited repress which you can grab from Juno via: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/red-rackem-in-love-again/513289-01/

Zito Mowa – Ndo Neta (MOISSWAX002)

Moiss Music is a label which hugely impressed us in the second half of 2020, indeed we had a chat with Alex Moiss who runs the label a few weeks which is well worth checking out HERE along with the tight mix that he recorded for us.

Zito Mowa is also an artist who has been bubbling nicely in 2020 and no surprise when you hear the classy track that he delivered here as part of the Moiss Wax EP 2, Pineapple Jam. Deep shuffling beats, looped up hypnotic keys, it’s as much a Sunday morning track as it is a club groove. Keep an eye out for both the label and artist in 2021.

The vinyl is due to land on next week grab it via: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/zito-mowa-replika-sune-vitamin-pineapple-jam/780792-01/

Hurlee – Pel Meu Per Tu [Dobro]

Spanish producer Hurlee has been a real favourite on the pages of LV online over the last couple of years. Both in his own and via his regular collaborations with the equally talented Paul Rudder. What we love about Hurlee is his ability to transcend many house sub genres with ease from easily accessible disco edged house into house club bombs and then into cool as you like deep house.

This track comes from a label which only just launched in 2020 but which is already bringing some serious heat, Iner’s Dobro. Taken from their Dobro 002 EP which also features the undoubtable talents of among others Igor Gonya and Cosmocomics, Hurlee’s Pel Meu Per Tu is a sublime heartwarming and great fun deep groove. The lovely work on the keys is the focal point of this track. Jumping between free flowing moments and short edgy loops it’s a track which demands to be played on repeat.

It’s due to land on vinyl next week, grab it via: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/hurlee-mutenoise-jeff-the-fool-dobro-002/787646-01/

Tilman – Too Tight to Stay [Shall Not Fade]

Tilman was another artist who really upped the stakes in 2020 with a stream of excellent releases for Dobro, Footjob, RTB and two major releases with Shall Not Fade who it’s safe to say also had an absolutely outstanding year.

Too Tight To Say is a classic slice of synth led deep house, doffing it’s hat to the 90’s it packs in chunky drums and some great vocal samples. It’s a track laden with club atmosphere.

Grab it on vinyl soon via: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/5-years-of-shall-not-fade/793329-01/

Fred Everything feat Robert Owens – I’ll Take You In (Classic Mix) [Lazy Days US]

If you are looking for a real classic vocal Deep House vibe then Robert Owens teaming up with Fred Everything has it all. Featuring Roberts wonderful vocal riding atop that warm bassline and perfectly crafted drums it’s a beautifully produced track. This one that could just as easily have been released in 1995 and will likely sound just as incredible in 2045. Deep vocal perfection.

Luyo, Pietro Nicosia – Steezy ft. Coflo (Luyo Dub)

This in absolute scorcher of deep groove from a trio of hugely talented artists. The original has a jump up afro hip house vibe and is loads of fun but here label boss Luyo has taken this one super deep with a powerful hypnotic dub. Swirling synths and incessant percussive hits combine with layered vocals to create the perfect track for those early morning messy dancefloor moments.
